My favourite island!
A few weeks ago I visited Hong Kong with my sister for about 9 days. It was our fist time in Asia and we loved it! So I’m finally sharing the things we loved visiting the most.
Going to Hong Kong during Belgian summer guaranties hot weather and a lot of rain, since it is rain season. On a less rainy day, we decided to visit Lantau Island. Hong Kong’s largest island houses the airport and also Disneyland Hong Kong but it has much more to offer.
From Hong Kong Central we took the metro to Tung Chung located at Lantau island. We planned to visit the Big Buddha and a little village Tai O, famous for their stilt houses on the water. Arrived in Tung Chung we didn’t took the cable car, which is quite touristic and expensive, but instead we bought a day pass to use the bus which is around €4. So we changed our plans a bit but it got even better!
The first bus ride brought us from Tung Chung to Ngong Ping. The Big Buddha and the monastery are definitely worth a visit. We also did a part of the wisdom trail, starting at the monastery, which offers great views.
Up next we took the bus to the little fisherman’s village Tai O. We planned to walk around this little town but we were offered to make a boat trip for only €3 so we couldn’t refuse. The boat trip took us along the stilt houses, which are even nicer to see from the water. After, the boat went to the sea where we spotted pink dolphins – right, pink dolphins!
Instead of doing the same return we took the bus to Mui Wo. We enjoyed a little walk and a nice dinner after a perfect day! From Mui Wo we took the ferry back to Hong Kong Central, to enjoy the skyline by night.
